At TruScribe, we dear to celebrate the piece of work that our staff creates, both in and outside of the office. We're proud to announce that one of our talented artists, Carli Ihde, has just received an Emmy for her contribution to the artist-focused program, HitRECord on Boob tube. Nosotros sat downwards with Carli to talk most her experience collaborating on the program and what lessons she's brought back to her piece of work at TruScribe.

TruScribe: Tell me a bit about your work with HitRECord on Boob tube:

Carli: HitRECord is an online collaborative community full of artists from all over the earth, and we come together and we create petty short segments for a variety show that is on Pivot chosen HitRECord on Boob tube. In the first Flavour, I animated and contributed still images. I did a few things for music videos throughout the evidence and I as well sang in the show likewise. I worked on Flavour one and Flavour 2, and Season One won the Emmy.

TS: What was the Emmy for, specifically?

C: We won for Outstanding Creative Achievement in Interactive Media.

TS: When did y'all detect out about the laurels?

C: Actually, nosotros knew about it a year ago; nosotros constitute out about it along time ago. They only recently sent out certificates to anyone that worked on the first season of the TV show. So, we all were told that nosotros won Emmy'south simply information technology took quite a long time to laissez passer out certificates to everyone, to congratulate and thank everybody for contributing to the Emmy-winning season.

TS: Then, what was your favorite piece that you created?

C: For Season 1, my favorite piece that I worked on was a music video for a song called "Adieu", written by my good friend, Joe Rudd, who performed information technology. The whole music video was fabricated upwardly of rotoscope animations done past dissimilar members of the customs.

An instance sequence from Carli's rotoscoping of HitRECord host, Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

TS: Tell me a bit more about rotoscoping:

C: Rotoscope animation is when you take a video and you lot separate information technology into frames. Then you practice an animation analogy over each frame, and when put together, it is a flowing animation. Actually, it's a really common practise in Disney and Pixar!  A bunch of members of the community got together for the "Adieu" music video. But, information technology was kind of cool because I've had years and years of practice in rotoscope beforehand, so they specifically reached out to me for really Giant sections. *laughs*. And so, it took over eighty hours to accomplish what I had done just for the short music video. That was my favorite considering I put A LOT of work into it.

TS: So, 80 hours for how many minutes of footage?

C: Probably non fifty-fifty a minute! In total, nearly thirty seconds of animation. Information technology was line work equally well equally coloring. But for that segment, one unmarried animation was 89 drawings, and that was 10 seconds [of footage].

TS: What did you learn the most from working on these projects with HitRECord?

C: Especially with working on projects similar rotoscope, where it is a really long process, y'all learn patience. Only you besides learn that there are two types of people: There are people that see it and capeesh it, only won't bother to acknowledge the work that goes into it. And there's some other type of people who Really Encounter what you've done — that's who I play to in the rotoscope that I do. People who not only appreciate it, but really encounter it for what it is. And, you have to go back to patience, you lot really need a lot of it.

TS: What would you say that it's added to your skills as a TruScribe Artist and what are you going to bring back to your piece of work at TruScribe after all of this?

C: Well, it was a good experience working and collaborating, because I non only collaborated with the musician Joe Rudd, I collaborated with HitRECord and the leaders of the [HitRECord] community, but I also worked with the other animators in the music video. Information technology was interesting collaborating with the same people that you lot were working FOR. Which is the same aspect as my work at TruScribe. At TruScribe, it'due south all collaborative, so you're collaborating with your clients directly; it's a really similar experience.

TS: Was it a nice change of pace to stretch your artistic legs in a different management?

C: Yes, I absolutely love rotoscope animation, but considering of the time that it takes but — not that it has a small audience, because people enjoy watching information technology — these days with a lot of digital animation, it's non as mutual as information technology used to be. It'southward really cool to exist able to get the chance to be paid for something that takes that long, get information technology out there then people can see information technology, and put my name on something that no one else does in the manner that I do it.

TS: Where can people come across more of your rotoscoping work?

C: Currently, I accept an exhibition at the Bubbler, an art gallery in the Madison Public Library. So all of my animations are playing on repeat on the big screens throughout the library, but if you lot aren't near Wisconsin, simply Google my name, and since I'm the only person with my proper noun, I'g like shooting fish in a barrel to find! And, the commencement flavor of HitRECord is on Netflix, so you can sentinel my animations as well as the work of thousands of other artists.

Congrats to Carli on her Emmy-winning contributions!

For over 30 years, Weird Al Yankovic has been pointing a funhouse mirror at pop civilization. This latest album, "Mandatory Fun" proves that out. When Al Yankovic asked TruScribe to point that goofy mirror at our own industry with a whiteboard video…well, y'all tin can run across what was intended up above.

Mind to "Mission Statement" and you can hear how it would be an easy fit at a corporate retreat meant to inspire and bulldoze people to go forth and synergize. Harmonious drum circles and flowers distract you from plans for globe domination.

Starting time of Collaboration

Working with Al was a lot of fun for our entire team. Our first coming together was but over a year ago, and then nosotros had some time to let our creative juices flow. Each of our artists worked on the showtime 30 seconds of the lyrics and passed their drawings around to the rest of our team to evaluate. The group lifted upward Brian Wisniewski to be the atomic number 82 artist on the project, but when you watch the video, you can see that in that location was more than ane hand involved.

A Few Whiteboard Tricks

When we sent over initial ideas on all the new tricks and experiments nosotros had in mind for the project, Al urged us to keep it unproblematic. One of the new tricks nosotros did go to use was having multiple hands draw in front of the camera so we could draw images and lyrics at the same fourth dimension.

Well-nigh of our videos employ black and one other colour as an accent color to just signify an important part of the video. Early on on, we knew we wanted a psychedelic section to brand the corporate speak feel like a fleck of a trip (practice you want to tie that back to the era the song hails from??). For that section we wanted to utilise lots of color. To accomplish the right effect, we used a trick that we've not seen anyone else use.

This technique is something we developed for color matching to corporate brand guides. A bit of greenish marker, and the world is a rainbow.

TruScribe videos are 100{2a082904821c1c33712f76984005b16f29aaa8d86edd14e37693bc9b66eb335b} hand-drawn, but a few cheats aren't bad.

Seeing the Sense of humor

We're sure that this parody is going to go some mixed reviews from our clients. This language appears in our videos all the time, and we know that the instructional designers, trainers, and marketers out there will have a express joy with u.s.. As with most forms of humour, it speaks to a bit of truth that we tin all learn from. You tin use all the jargon and cultural speak you want, merely if the bulletin behind it and the actions you have to support it aren't authentic, people won't trust it.

Our Experience

The TruScribe team lastly wants to thank Al and anybody on his team for including united states in this project. Our memories, and this video, will always be a part of our story. Al, nosotros wish y'all all the all-time with "Mandatory Fun" and look frontward to looking into the funhouse mirror again.
